It looks like the Alien saga is getting another entry after the film series has gone dormant for several years. After Ridley Scott's divisive Alien:Covenant, the saga lost more luster and was ultimately shelved although a television series is still in the works. Now, director Fede Alvarez has been tapped to write and direct a brand new franchise entry that will continue the brand for 20th Century Studios. Ridley Scott will be stepping aside and will only serve as a producer on the project under his Scott Free banner.

This latest film is currently slated to be part of the upcoming round of original Hulu projects and will be part of their streaming service, which will also be home to the television series as well. It's currently being said that this will not reintroduce Ripley and will be a separate story within the Alien universe. Alvarez made the original Don't Breathe and also directed the 2013 Evil Dead film. He was also on board the Netflix Texas Chainsaw Massacre as a producer.

It's being reported that Alvarez and Scott have struck up a friendship in recent years and have been discussing this Alien project for quite some time. Late last year, Scott called him and asked if he was interested in taking on the movie and agreed to do it.
