In Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origins, developers Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja take the Square Enix franchise back to the beginning and delve into the story of Jack Garland. In anticipation of the games release March 18, 2022, the Play Arts Kai figure line has solicited images and pre-orders for the main character in his daunting armor.
The highly detailed, glossy black armor with gold trim cuts a menacing silhouette. The extravagant horns on his helmet and over-sized sword serve to warn you this is a boss in the making. Play Arts Kai has been known to produce incredibly accurate and poseable figures at this large scale as well as keeping a slavish eye on detail. At nearly 13 inches tall, Garland displays a range of articulation suitable for this, at least during this game, protagonist. Included are three sets of interchangeable hands, an intricately detailed massive sword, a stand, and a fabric cape with wire inlay for pose-ability. The promotional images did show Garland sitting upon a throne, identical to the one at the end of the latest trailer but it is not included in this release.
Preorders are up on Square Enix’s North American site as well as most online collectible retailers for $239.99 USD and should start arriving in March of 2023. Looks like Chaos has been waiting for us.
