Strange New Worlds: Paul Wesley Joins New Star Trek Series as James T. Kirk

The Star Trek universe just got a little more confusing as their latest series has just added another James T. Kirk. With the recent announcement of a new Star Trek 4 film, it seems as if Star Trek is really playing with their fandom at this point. Today it was announced that Vampire Diaries actor Paul Wesley will be playing Kirk on the upcoming Star Trek: Strange New Worlds which is currently in production in Toronto.

The first season hasn't officially premiered yet and will officially launch on May 5th on Paramount+. This will be the first time that the captain of the Enterprise will appear in a television series since the role was originally played by William Shatner. He will be the third actor to play the character behind Chris Pine who will continue to play Kirk in the fourth upcoming movie in the Kelvin Timeline.

"Paul is an accomplished actor, an astonishing presence and a welcome key addition to the show", said producers Alex Kurtzman, Akiva Goldsman, and Henry Alonso Myers in a statement. "Like all of us, he is a life long Star Trek fan and we are excited by his interpretation of this iconic role."
