To Boldly Go: The Fully Restored Star Trek: The Motion Picture To Hit Paramount+ This Spring

It's been over forty years since Star Trek: The Motion Picture was released in theaters. The often misunderstood film is finally getting a proper release of The Director's Edition on April 5th on Paramount+ and will get a 4K UHD release later this year in September. This is the fully restored version of the film that's more in line with director Robert Wise's vision for the film. The announcement was just made today that it would be hitting streaming and the eventual disc release. This is a different version of the film that was released on the four disc retail package that was released last year.

The newly remastered version will also be receiving a limited theatrical run via Fathom Events that will see the movie in theaters on May 22 and May 25th. Tickets go on sale April 8th via Fathom's website.

The film was restored and assembled by producer David C. Fein and preservationist Mike Matessino. They both previously worked with Robert Wise on the film's prior restoration back in 2001. Daren Dochterman assisted in recreating visual effects for the film as well.
