Long before Matt Reeves' The Batman even released in theaters and became a box office juggernaut, it was known that his version of The Penguin would be turned into a limited run series for HBO MAX. With dramatic star Colin Farrell under heavy prosthetics and makeup, The Penguin became one of the best on screen villains in the entire Batman filmography. As the film has now headed to HBO MAX and is still climbing at the box office, the upcoming Penguin series is finally making some more headway and is readying its production for the streaming service.

It's been revealed that the show will officially head into filming on June 15th, 2022 as slated in their upcoming production schedule. The televised chapters that take place in Gotham City will chronicle Penguin's rise to power as a mob kingpin and will lead up to the events of the film. Farrell expressed his readiness to return to the character:

"I couldn't be more excited about about continuing this exploration of Oz as he rises through the darkened ranks to become The Penguin. Will be good to get him back on the streets of Gotham for a little madness and a little mayhem."
