Since its inception nearly two decades ago, FOX Television's 24 has seen numerous iterations. While the original run of the series was quite a hit for the studio, it hasn't really aged that well. It's also seen numerous revisits, a television movie, and a reboot with a new main character that ultimately failed to live up to its namesake. Now, while FOX has been considering another return to 24, Kiefer Sutherland says that he's fully open to returning if the time and scripting is done right. He believes the character's story remains "unresolved" and would be willing to come back if the option presents itself.

When speaking with GQ Magazine, the star spoke fondly of his years as a member of the fictional CTU. And he opened up about the possibility of returning to the role of Special Agent Jack Bauer:

"I do believe the story is unresolved. If something were to be written that made sense to me and that I thought was going to contribute to the franchise then I would be behind it, even if my participation in that were to be limited."

The original 24 ended in 2010 after running for nine seasons on FOX, then returned for 2014's 24:Live Another Day which was an event series. It was then rebooted under the name 24: Legacy with a new central character named Eric Carter taking over the lead. It was not a success and was pulled prior to a second season.

It was last reported in 2021 that FOX was actively seeking new ways to revitalize the series via some type of comeback show.
