Racing's In Our Blood: Speed Racer Series in Development at Apple From JJ Abrams

The long loved classic Speed Racer is getting another live action iteration. This time, it's coming from J.J. Abrams and his Bad Robot production company in partnership with Apple. Abrams will serve as an executive producer on the latest incarnation of the character when he lands on the media giant's streaming service. There are few details known right now, but it's said that the project has actually been in the works for years and will finally go into active development. It's been described as an "excruciatingly slow" process as they've worked out the details for the latest Speed Racer series. Writers are finally being brought on board to continue development on the show.

Speed Racer was originally released as a Manga in 1966 then jumped to an animated series in 1967. Later on, it received an animated reboot called Speed Racer X in 1997. The Wachowskis released a live action film in 2008 but was a box office failure although it continues to receive a rabid cult fandom. It's now considered one of the Wachowskis most underrated movies and didn't receive the love it deserved due to its close proximity to the Matrix sequels.

We'll update as we hear more!
