The Less Sense It Makes, The Better: A24's Everything Everywhere Is A Box Office Surprise

Often times, especially in the modern cinematic climate, we hear how creative and original works have a poor reception at the box office. Comic book movies and established franchises seem to have their run of things as smaller independent films fall by the wayside. This last year has seen its fair share of huge budgeted studio films take massive receipts at the cineplex while independent films end up crashing and burning with little to no fanfare and end up being financial disappointments. Well, A24 seems to be having quite a bit of success this year with their latest release Everything Everywhere All At Once. The theatrical run of the film is proving to be the one indie flick that's not really challenging the bigger names but is proving to be a mild hit.

Set against a small budget of only $25 million, which is meager in current times, the film has already racked up over $35 million in domestic U.S. receipts. And its picking up steam as it goes. Where most movies seem to lose traffic over subsequent weeks, Everything Everywhere actually saw a 2 percent increase over the previous weekend's numbers, picking up another $5.5 million after several weeks in release. It also managed $850,000 from IMAX screenings.

At this point, it's only picked up $10 million in profits against its budget, but seems to have legs and will most likely continue on for several weeks with A24 reps saying it "has no signs of slowing down" and will "continue its theatrical run well into the summer".
