The latest film in the decades long Mad Max franchise has officially begun filming. The prequel which will chronicle the younger years of Furiosa, played by Charlize Theron in Fury Road, has at long last headed into production. This will be the fifth film in the franchise and the first that will not focus on the original lead character, Max Rockatansky. Mel Gibson originated the role in the first Mad Max and carried through the trilogy until Beyond Thunderdome. The role was then handed off to Tom Hardy in Fury Road, which went on to be a massive box office hit and is considered to be one of the best action movies ever made.
Miller is back in the directorial chair for Furiosa with Anya Taylor-Joy taking over the title role from Theron and Chris Hemsworth signed on to play the main villain in this prequel. There is also another Mad Max feature tentatively titled Wasteland that's in the works which will bring Hardy back to the role of Max.
Furiosa will premiere in cinemas on May 24th, 2024 as long as no production delays happen.
