The Last Jedi: Rian Johnson Says Talks are Still Underway for His Star Wars Trilogy

Cue the internet tears. Rian Johnson has confirmed that his Star Wars spin-off trilogy is officially still in the works. The director of 2017's divisive The Last Jedi says that he's still in active discussions with Kathleen Kennedy about where his trilogy might fit into the galaxy far, far away and claims that discussions are still underway with Lucasfilm to eventually get it into production. Obviously, Johnson made the hit crime caper Knives Out and is working on the sequels for Netflix, but still has his eyes on the prize when it comes to Star Wars. When speaking with Empire, he had this to say about the project:

"I've stayed close with Kathleen Kennedy and we get together often to talk about it. It's just at this point a matter of schedule and when it can happen. It would break my heart if I were finished, if I couldn't get back in that sandbox at some point."

With the fifth anniversary of 2017's The Last Jedi around the corner, it seems that he's definitely hot to get back into the director's chair on another SW film. Despite fan outcry and a rabid hate by 50 percent of the fanbase, it seems as if it could still happen. However, it might be better if he's kept far away from any existing lore and does his own thing in the franchise that keeps him separate from the Skywalker legacy.
