Heads Are Going To Explode: David Cronenberg's Scanners Being Adapted to HBO Series

We're a little bit behind on this news. But, it's being reported that HBO is actively adapting David Cronenberg's 1981 cult horror film Scanners into a full series on the cable and streaming outlet. Black Mirror writer William Bridges is set to pen the planned project that will dive further into the world that Cronenberg created with his movie. Yann Demange, who helmed HBO's Lovecraft Country is currently set to direct. Cronenberg's now classic horror flick was about "Scanners" a group of people with psychokinetic abilities and powers. The film is best known for the classic scene of Michael Ironside explodes someone's head with his superhuman powers.

The show is being called a "visceral thriller set in the mind bending world of Cronenberg's film". The plot features "two women living on the fringes of society who are pursued by relentless agents with unimaginable powers and thus must learn to work together to topple a vast conspiracy determined to bring them to heel".

It definitely sounds interesting. We're wondering if it will be a direct continuation of the movies or will be a full reboot of the story. Either way, we're here for it.
