It's been 14 years since the original Cloverfield destroyed cinemas. Now, we're finally going to get what appears to be a direct sequel to the hit found footage monster invasion movie. Despite several other directly connected films, there has never been an actual continuation of the first film.
It's been announced today that what is possibly Cloverfield 2 is finally happening with Babak Anvari (Under The Shadow) directing the project with Joe Barton on board to write the script for the follow-up. Cloverfield had two other connected movies including 10 Cloverfield Lane in theaters and The Cloverfield Paradox which premiered on Netflix. Neither of those films were true sequels but took place in a shared universe.
Details are very limited at this time but this looks to be a straight part 2 to Matt Reeves' 2008 film. But we'll stop speculating. Hopefully this is a return to form for how it all began. We like monsters. And we like destruction.
