With the release of Ti West's X prequel, Pearl hitting cinemas at the end of the week, the indie brand A24 has revealed that a third film in the franchise is right around the corner. The trilogy will conclude with MaXXXine, which takes place in 1985 and is an official followup to X with Mia Goth reprising her role of Maxine. A shorty synopsis has been released for the sequel:
Mia Goth will be back and reprising one of the the two roles she played in X. It follows Maxine after the events of X, as the sole survivor who continues her journey towards fame setting out to make it as an actress in 1980's Los Angeles.
MaXXXine hasn't entered production yet but is currently being readied by A24 and has an official green light. X proved to be quite the sleeper hit for the studio and spawned a cult following along with helping along the horror industry in 2022. Pearl, which hits cinemas this week, is a prequel which takes place long before the events of the first film and follows the history of X's villains.
