Why Are You Doing This To Us?: The Strangers (2008) Being Remade, Trilogy in The Works

Well, by now we know that no horror property is safe from the remake treatment. Today, it’s been announced that the 2008 home invasion slasher flick The Strangers is officially receiving a remake with Renny Harlin taking up directorial duties on the film. Madelaine Petsch is set to star in the first of the new series.

Currently it’s being touted as a full restart for the franchise that spawned the excellent sequel, The Strangers: Prey at Night. Apparently they’re kick starting this new one with a very similar story to the original movie. When a traveling couple is stranded at an AirBNB, they’re visited by a group of killers with a taste for blood. And with the announcement of the film that’s actually already in production in Slovakia, they’re saying that a full trilogy is currently planned dependent on the success of this relaunch.

Why they’re rebooting instead of just making another sequel is beyond us right now especially with Harlin’s varied level of quality over the years. The man has directed an equal amount of great movies and stinkers.

We’ll hold out hope that The Strangers remake is decent and can at minimum be as good as Prey at Night, which was supposed to receive a sequel at one point but never panned out.
