Since Netflix announced their deal for two Knives Out sequels, fans have been waiting with bated breath to see if the films will get a theatrical release. It appears that the mystery has been solved. The first of two sequels, Glass Onion, will hit theaters on November 23rd for what is being described by the studio as a one-week special sneak preview for the film.

This is a significant win for Netflix and for theaters during the holiday weekend. For the first time in Netflix history, all three of the major theatrical exhibitors have agreed to release a Netflix film in their theaters. Netflix has tried and failed in the past in their negotiations to have prestige titles like The Irishman, Power of the Dog, and Don't Look Up play wide.

The Rian Johnson-directed sequel will open in approximately 600 cinemas. In addition to AMC Theatres, Cinemark Theatres, and Regal Cinemas, the film will play in additional select locations in the U.S. and overseas. The movie’s theatrical run is scheduled for Nov. 23-29. There's no word yet on whether the film will remain in theaters after this but one can imagine that if it overperforms, Netflix will cut a deal to keep it in theaters. If not, fans who missed out on the screenings can catch the film on Netflix a month later on December 23rd.
