Put On A Happy Face: Smile Maintains #1 Spot at Box Office, Lyle Lyle Crocodile and Amsterdam Sink

The lower budgeted horror film Smile continued to rack up dollar signs at the box office this weekend. Paramount's latest genre flick scored another $17.6 million at domestic U.S. theaters bringing it to roughly $50 million on home turf and nearly $90 million total globally with another $40 million. This is a huge haul for the feature film which was expected to be a hit for Halloween. It is now holds the record as the second highest holdover for an R rated horror movie just behind Jordan Peele's Get Out. This is a great signs for theaters as things seemed to be dying off prior to the release of Smile. Next weekend will see the release of Halloween Ends which will definitely topple Smile and is expected to be a huge hit for the holiday month.

Lyle Lyle Crocodile took the second place spot with a very disappointing $11.5 million from weekend ticket sales. David O. Russell's latest star power flick Amsterdam was a massive flop taking in only $6.5 million total in domestic sales. This is awful for a movie with such a stacked cast. With Russell's known on set issues and drama continuing to follow him, his new movie is dead on arrival and has been mostly critically ravaged across the board.
