There's Babies in the Attic: Kevin Smith Teases Red State II, Lionsgate Wants a Sequel

It looks like Kevin Smith is at it again. The director has officially teased a sequel or continuation of his 2011 cult film, Red State. The film which centered on a violent religious fundamentalist cult appears to be getting a follow up that will be written and directed by Smith. With his Clerks III doing fairly well on the indie circuit, he says that Red State II may not be a direct sequel but would almost definitely feature John Goodman again. When speaking with /Film, he revealed that Lionsgate has reached out to him with interest in getting a second movie green lit:

“They were like, if we do this, would you do it again? And I was like, yeah, in a heartbeat. I mean, obviously, Michael Parks is gone. But it’s just a story of crazy people with guns and shit like that. As long as I could use John Goodman again. I could make a hundred fucking Red States. And I’m like, let’s do it. So we’re gonna make one.”

While there are no scripts in development at the time, it's definitely promising that Lionsgate wants to get this project done. We'll update as we hear more about this project moving forward.
