Based on the original novel by F. Paul Wilson, Michael Mann's troubled studio film The Keep has continued to drum up a cult following over the years. Now, it looks like the film will see new life in a remake by none other than The Walking Dead's Greg Nicotero. As revealed a short time ago, writer Wilson has announced that he's signed a deal to allow his story to be turned into another live action film:

"2 days ago, after a year and a half of lawyering between 'the purchaser' and my side at ICM, I signed an option/purchase agreeement with Greg Nicotero for the remake of The Keep. Greg is a longtime fan of the book and he's got the chops to do a worthy adaptation."

The original film had multiple troubles on set and was eventually trimmed down to a slim 96 minutes despite Mann's creative wishes. The resulting project was a poorly edited mess that was rendered a flop by studio toiling. However, over the years the film seems to be drumming up more interest.

The 1983 film starred Ian McKellen, Alberta Watson, Scott Glenn, Gabriel Byrne and Jurgen Prochnow. It's also known for its soundtrack by Tangerine Dream.
