It's been a whirlwind of a couple months for Henry Cavill, to say the least. After announcing his return as the Man of Steel and leaving The Witcher, it turned out this Wednesday that he wouldn't be returning as the Man of Steel. Warner Brothers announced that they will be going in a new direction without Cavill courtesy of new DC Studios heads, James Gunn and Peter Safran. Fear not though, Henry Cavill will still be on our screens in the near future.

Henry Cavill is now attached to star and executive produce in a series adaptation of Warhammer 40,000, the popular science fiction fantasy miniature war game. Warhammer 40,000 is set in the distant future, where a stagnant human civilization is beset by hostile aliens and supernatural creatures. There have been many spinoffs of the franchise into the literary and virtual spaces but this will be the first live-action adaptation.

The series will be set up at AmazonAmazon secured the rights to the game, produced by Games Workshop, after what insiders describe as months of aggressive negotiations and fending off rival companies that sought to adapt the series. As we are early in the development process, there are no writers or showrunners are attached. Vertigo Entertainment’s Roy Lee and Natalie Viscuso teamed with Cavill to secure the rights and will executive produce with Cavill.

After a rough week, Cavill does seem elated to get to work on this property. "I have loved Warhammer since I was a boy, making this moment truly special for me. The opportunity to shepherd this cinematic universe from its inception is quite the honour and the responsibility. I couldn’t be more grateful for all the hard work put in by Vertigo, Amazon Studios and Games Workshop to make this happen. One step closer to making a nigh on lifelong dream come true."
