The Truth is Still Out There: Ryan Coogler Developing New X-Files Series

It's been just over five years since The X-Files finalized its mediocre tenth and eleventh event seasons on FOX. Since then, Gillian Anderson has sworn off ever revisiting the character of Dana Scully, stating that she'd run her full arc and there was nothing really left to do with the show. David Duchovny had showed some interest in another run of episodes if Chris Carter returned to helm the series, but would be amiss without its female counterpoint. So, for all intents and purposes, The X-Files seemed to be done.

In the meantime, there was an animated spinoff announced called The X-Files:Albuquerque that is supposedly going to be produced by Chris Carter. The animated show is said to be a comedy that would focus on the cases that Mulder and Scully would never consider dealing with.

Today, it looks like The X-Files may get new life under Creed and Black Panther director Ryan Coogler. Chris Carter said, when speaking with On the Coast With Gloria Macarenko that the brand would be revitalized again with Coogler taking over creative duties. He had this to say:

"I just spoke with a young man, Ryan Coogler...who is going to remount The X-Files with a diverse cast. So he's got his work cut out for him, because we covered so much territory."

No official announcement has been made yet. But it sounds like The X-Files will be making another return, just with a new cast of characters. It could be interesting.
