As an artist known for switching up his lanes both within music and his career as a whole, it felt like only a matter of time before Kid Cudi would go on to make his very own show. Enter: Entergalactic. The rotoscoped, slice-of-life project co-created by Blackish creator Kenya Barris has Cudi star as Jabari, a promising artist and pothead, moving into downtown New York City attempting to find the proverbial work-life balance.

Alongside Cudi is a star-studded cast featuring many of today’s biggest names in entertainment including Spiderman: Homecoming and Blackkklasnsman star Laura Harrier as Jabari’s ex Carmen, Academy Award-nominated actor and self-proclaimed Cudi fan Timothee Chalamet and Ty Dolla $ign as his best friends Jimmy and Ky, Jessica Williams as his next door neighbor and love interest Meadow, and Vanessa Hudgens as Meadow’s friend, Katrina.

The phrase “never a dull moment” comes to mind when watching this film as even during cliched moments the bumping soundtrack and bright, ethereal visuals make up for it. Jabari and Meadow start warming up to one another and can be seen going on dates and cute meetups around the city.

Precisely written and edited, the animated adventure wastes no time in telling the story it sets out to tell with no fluff or filler. As tensions begin to flare up between Meadow and Jabari, a rift forms between them that threatens their relationship. The humor and heart imbued in the script truly translate Cudi’s world into a real work of art with sequences that place you in the mindset of each main character’s point of view.

With just a 90-minute runtime and such an original romantic comedy amid the influx of IP-laden fare out nowadays, this heart-warming tale is worth a watch.
