Today word broke that the long awaited first Alien movie from Disney has received an official release date. The film from Fede Alvarez has been slated for August 16th, 2024.  This will be the 9th entry in the long running franchise and will be the first from Alvarez, who previously directed horror films like Don't Breathe and the 2013 remake of Evil Dead

Currently, the film is described as a stand alone feature that exists in the same universe of the previous movies. The only thing we know so far is that it will center on a group of young people that encounter the Xenomorphs on a "distant world".

Ridley Scott is on board as a producer under his Scott Free banner. Scott previously made a comeback to the franchise with Prometheus and the later sequel Alien: Covenant. The film is being made by 20th Century Studios, part of the Disney brand.

There is also an Alien television show in the works. It's not expected that they'll be connected and will be two separate story arcs.
