There Is A Darkness Coming: Steven Caple Jr. In Early Discussions for Transformers 8

Considering that Paramount has a massive box office hit on their hands, they're already in early discussions to start development on the next Transformers movie. Although many are sad that the latest movie didn't get back to the basics of the previous stand alone Bumblebee movie, the execs are already in discussions to roll out on the next feature film in the Hasbro film franchise about robots at war. Nothing about this is surprising at this point. The film which features a battle weary Optimus Prime doing his best to keep things together had a huge weekend in theaters, shutting down its main competition, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

Today, it's been announced that director Steven Caple Jr. is in early talks to direct the next film, which really seemed to step back to action-centric days of Michael Bay. Bumblebee was much more story and character focused and was a departure. Rise of the Beasts is way more action heavy and spends a lot of its time in all out battle, doing exactly what annoyed people with the worst of the Bay films.

Caple had this to say about the discussions:

I am not officially signed on for the next movie. We're in the works now, but I'm not officially signed on. I'm in talks. I set up a lot of stuff in this film, and with the studio, myself, and the producers, every time we talk about the future, there's a lot of 'we', the word 'we'. It's kind of naturally fell that way. But everything that was planted here was for the future, so yeah. Yeah, we're in talks.
