We've all been holding out hope that somehow or some way that James Cameron and Robert Rodriguez would wrangle up the budget to get a sequel to the Alita: Battle Angel. While the film wasn't a massive box office hit for the studio, it continues to drum up a cult following. Now, it looks like Cameron has basically confirmed that a second and third film are in the early stages of development and may end up finally happening. We couldn't be happier.

The original film was released back in 2019 and eventually tallied up a box office take of $409 million, which is nothing to sneeze at but not quite the success they had hoped for but is still a modestly sized hit. Now, Cameron seems to be setting his sights not only on Pandora but a full return to the world of Alita.

When speaking to Forbes about the sale of his Gaviota Coast ranch, the producer/director and all around adventurer revealed that it has to do with multiple projects including Alita 2 and 3:

"I'm working in Wellington and Los Angeles. And on the new Alita: Battle Angel films I'll be working in Austin. So it just didn't make sense for us to live there anymore."

There's been talk for the last year that this could happen. But this is the first word from Cameron that something is stirring. We're so excited! But we'll hold out official hope for word from the studio!
