The first trailer for David Gordon Green's The Exorcist: Believer hit the internet today. The new movie is the first in a new trilogy that will serve as direct sequels to the original Exorcist and retcons all previous continuations. This is similar to what Green and crew did with the new Halloween trilogy. We're still not quite sure how we feel about his upcoming movies considering how the last two turned out but we'll gladly give them a shot!

Along with the trailer release, Universal announced that the second film in the trio will be released in time for the religious holiday of Easter. This sounds like perfect timing to us. The Exorcist: Deceiver will be in theaters on April 18th, 2025.

The Exorcist received many sequels and prequels over the last 40 years. The only respected continuation was The Exorcist III which starred George C. Scott. There were also two separate prequels that featured the same basic story, one of which was directed by Paul Schrader, the other was directed by Renny Harlin. These new films will be a direct continuation of the original movie. Ellen Burstyn is returning as Chris Macneil, the mother of Regan.
