We Must Never Stop Failing: Dungeons and Dragons 2 Could Still Happen Says Paramount CEO

The latest onscreen iteration of Dungeons and Dragons did not fair very well at the box office. The movie only generated $208 million set against a $150 million budget. While that means it made a little bit of money, it's no match for numerous other franchise blockbusters and is not considered a success by Paramount. However, the film did get a great response from a high percentage of critics and fans of D&D. With all that said, it looks like they're still interested in a sequel but it will come at a cost of a much lower budget.

When speaking with Variety, Paramount CEO Brian Robbins had much to say about a follow-up and did not mention if Chris Pine would be included in a second part:

"We've got to figure out a way to make it for less", he told the outlet.

Earlier in May, directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein told Polygon that they were interested in a sequel but that was never the plan:

"It was never our intention when we came on board this film to make a franchise. I think that would cloud our ability to focus entirely on the film at hand. The cardinal mistake many studios make is to put the cart before the horse, where they start crafting a cinematic universe before they even make a good single film. So first and foremost was getting this right."

Well, they seem to have the best of intentions and made a really good first entry. Now, we'll have to wait and see if Paramount gets behind a sequel. Apparently, a television series is still in the works.
