DC fans got a bit of great news today. Ever since the live action Watchmen event series on HBO, we haven't had much new content. Well, it's been announced that they'll now be making the jump to animation with a new feature from DC Studios. The project is in the early stages of development but is part of a two film slate which also includes Crisis on Infinite Earths

Both films are scheduled to release some time next year. At this time, it's not known whether this will be a straight adaptation of the graphic novel or if it will be another continuation or story that's set in the universe. It was originally announced that DC would release an R rated animated spin on Watchmen back in 2017, but nothing ever came of it. Now, it looks like they're officially working on making that jump.

Watchmen was previously transposed to film with Zack Snyder's take on the characters back in 2009. The property was also turned into a limited event series on HBO that was a follow-up to the original story. It only ran for one season when the studio said they had no future plans for a second batch of episodes.
