Back in 2011, the Planet of the Apes was rebooted with a new trilogy that started the entire saga from scratch. The entire franchise proved to be a massive hit for the studio and told the story of Caesar, the primary character who led the apes to freedom in the concluding chapter. As mankind fell by the wayside, the apes start their own community and ended up in full on war with humans. The final movie saw Caesar's tribe move to a new home where they would begin a new colony of their own. The trio of films did very well in theaters and was thought to have ended with War for the Planet of the Apes

Several years later, a new film was announced and it was initially thought that it would be another soft reboot of the franchise. However, it's been revealed that the upcoming Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes will continue past Caesar's story and will be directly connected to the previous stories, revisiting themes and plot points from the previous trilogy.

The film is in post-production already and is scheduled to release in cinemas in May of 2024. Early story reveals say that the apes are continuing their takeover of Earth as most of human kind has been wiped out by the Simian Flu. It's being said that the apes will now face more threats from their own kind as they attempt to establish dominance of land, meaning separate colonies will potentially be at war.

Although Andy Serkis isn't involved in the feature, he had this to say about the script:

"Where they've chosen to land the story and take off with the next iteration...it's gonna blow people's minds".

It sounds like Caesar's legacy will still be a big part of where this next film goes and will hope it spawns another full trilogy. If they can hold true to the last films, we could be in for another amazing set of films.
