I'm Not A Fokkin' Alien: Neill Blomkamp Gives Disappointing Update on District 10

Director Neill Blomkamp hasn't had a big hit in a while. His District 9 is considered a modern sci-fi classic. Despite the flawed Elysium and the commercial failure of Chappie, he's still been in close contact with the studio regarding a sequel called District 10. Last year it was reported that the movie was going into development and would officially be receiving a second movie. Yet, nothing was ever confirmed or added to the production list. With his Gran Turismo in theaters this weekend, the topic of the sequel was brought up and he had this to say when speaking with THR. He was asked if Sony would still be involved:

"Yeah, they would be tied to it. I don't know if it's getting made or not. I don't know if I even want to make that right now, but at some point down the line, it'll probably get made."

Blomkamp has been attached to many projects including the ret-conned Alien 5 that never happened, which seems to still upset him. He was also in the development phase on Robocop Returns with Peter Weller coming back as Officer Murphy. Both projects have been fully scrapped and will never see the light of day. At least we can hold out hope that some day his District 10 will get made.
