The original Jurassic Park returned to theaters in a Real 3D presentation this last weekend and ended up tallying over $1.7 million in domestic ticket sales. The film was re-released in 1224 theaters in the U.S. and was still able to take in nearly $2 million in revenue 30 years after its intial release and multiple home video releases.

The film which was initially released in June of 1993 ended its run with almost $1 billion in ticket sales. It's seen numerous cinematic re-releases over the decades. Of course, it went on to spawn numerous sequels and continuations that have all been extremely successful. However, it was the original that had the creative mark of Steven Spielberg as its director.

In 2013, it got the 3D upgrade, which at the time generated an additional $18 million. With this weekend's grosses, it will officially cross that billion dollar mark.

It seems that, despite all the worries, theaters are thriving.
