With their upcoming release of The Exorcist: Believer hitting this week in theaters, the execs at Blumhouse are taking aim at another massive horror franchise. They previously made three sequels to the original Halloween with David Gordon Green at the helm and are now looking to the future with dreams of expanding the Friday the 13th franchise. Green is also making two more Exorcist sequels in the new ret-conned timeline for that series.

Executive Ryan Turek revealed that he is currently hoping that they can bring Jason Voorhees back to theaters with a potential relaunch of the classic slasher brand. When speaking with Inverse, he had this to say:

"Jason Blum and I are definitely in agreement that Friday the 13th is the thing we would love to get our hands on. I really want to go back to the basics. You don't need too man ingredients for a Friday the 13th film. You need summer camp, you need campers, and you need Jason Voorhees in a mask. Listen, I've gone on record saying Halloween is the ulimate slasher film for me. That's my favorite slasher film of all time. But Friday the 13th as a franchise is one that I just bow down to. I just love everything about it. And if we were able to live in both worlds, like we do with Halloween, then to be able to live at Crystal Lake for a while would be so incredible."

Creator Sean Cunningham is also rumored to be working on his very own Friday the 13th project right now. With many of the legal wranglings over rights to the franchise now completed, Blumhouse may be able to sneak in and try to do their thing with the legacy of Jason.
