Director Matthew Vaughn has officially confirmed that a full reboot of Kick Ass will be going into production in the near future. After the original turned the comic book film genre on its head, the sequel was a total disappointment. Well, Vaughn and his team are here to give Kick Ass a foot in the ass with a total reboot of the franchise. When speaking at New York Comic Con, the director confirmed that a new Kick Ass and a Kingsmen 3 are both coming soon to theaters and will help expand his specific type of comic book movie:

"We will be doing a reboot of Kick-Ass next year, but it's a total… it's like… it's as brave as the first one but totally different and more reflective of the times we're in," Vaughn told ComicBook.com.

The reboot will feature all new characters, none of which featured in the original films. Kick Ass received a fresh batch of characters in its comic run as well, replacing Dave Lizewski with a female protagonist, Patience Lee. In the comic, Hit Girl eventually retires from action. So, it will be interesting to see how they play this with new characters most likely from the later run of books.

Taron Egerton is set to reprise his role as Eggsy in the latest Kingsman movie, the fourth in the series and a return for the character after the failed Kings Man prequel. It sounds like the Kick Ass reboot will be second up for Vaughn with plans to shoot the next Eggsy adventure next year.
