George Miller has dedicated the latter part of his directorial career to the Mad Max franchise. After his Fury Road was a massive box office and critical success, he promised us several more movies in the franchise. The first will be his Furiosa, a movie that serves as a prequel starring Anya Taylor-Joy in the title role that was previously played by Charlize Theron opposite Tom Hardy. The second will be another movie starring Hardy as Max Rockatansky in what was tentatively known as The Wasteland

According to several sources including Variety, Warner Bros. is planning the world premiere of Furiosa at the Cannes Film Festival but has been dispelled by the studio. Due to the ongoing SAG strike, the actors may not be able to promote the film at the time of the festival. Some of this could be false as the film is set to release in May of 2024 and Cannes is planned for June of 2024. This may totally shoot down the rumor as false. Yet, the movie could still be delayed due to the strike. So we'll have to wait and see what happens.

Cannes chief Thierry Fremaux told Variety:

"We kept an extraordinary memory of the world premiere of Fury Road at Cannes. It would be wonderful to welcome them again with Furiosa especially since George Miller was a marvelous jury president in 2016. I know he's working on the film and I hope it will be at Cannes".
