Noah Hawley's Alien series for FX just leveled up its cast of stars. Timothy Olyphant has officially boarded the project alongside Sydney Chandler. Deadline just broke the news a little bit ago that Olyphant has signed on to a starring role on the upcoming show that will expand the Alien saga beyond the scope of the films.

Olyphant will star as a synth who is a mentor and trainer for lead star Chandler. The series is said to take place 70 years in the future and will apparently continue to break the boundaries of the movies by building on the known mythology. Some have said that the series will eventually bring the xenomporphs to Earth, but that remains to be seen.

Production on the series is set to resume right after the beginning of the year in Bangkok. Hawley says that the series will move beyond the confines of the movies,"The alien stories are always trapped, trapped in a prison, trapped in a spaceship. I thought it would be interesting to open it up a little bit so that the stakes of 'What happens when you can't contain it?' are more immediate."

Weyland-Yutani is said to be one of the primary focuses of the upcoming show.
