In a battle of giant monster versus giant monster, Godzilla: Minus One has proven to be a major winner this year at the worldwide box office. The film that had a small budget has gone on to be one of the most profitable movies and is leading the charge to bring classic Godzilla back to the masses. After 70 years and over 40 movies, the creature is still racking up money in theaters, proving that the classics are still worth revisiting with updates.

This latest release about Godzilla has had a great critical response and excellent word of mouth, bringing people back into theaters numerous times to watch the movie over again. It had the biggest Japanese film opening in the U.S. ever and has stomped out the worldwide grosses of Shin Godzilla this last week. It's also the sixth highest performing foreign film in domestic history. With it still in theaters, Minus One has just crossed the $78 million mark defeating Shin Godzilla's worldwide haul of $77.9 million. It's estimated that the movie will continue its run in theaters, allowing it to rack up ever more grosses.

The film is estimated to have cost around $15 million for its total budget, which is a very minor amount considering how much the lesser plotted U.S. based Godzilla movies have been budgeted at. This is a huge success for Japanese productions and continues to show that people are interested in going to the theater.
