James Cameron continues to prove that he is one of the busiest people in Hollywood. With upcoming 4K re-releases of The Abyss, True Lies and Aliens all set for home video, the director continues to work away on several upcoming sequels to the global phenomenon called Avatar. The second film in the series went on the be a massive global hit despite numerous delays and mixed reviews. Audiences in general loved the movie and helped it become a major financial success with repeated viewings and a great run in its 4K and blu-ray release. New special editions are coming soon.

Now, the director has given an update on the upcoming 3rd and 4th films in the series. Cameron says that Avatar 3 is "right on track" for its December 19th, 2025 release date as they continue to ramp up production on the film.

"We did the capture on three and the live action photography on three as an intermingled production with Avatar: The Way of Water. And we even did part of movie four because our young characters are all going to have a big time jump in movie four.", Cameron told PEOPLE magazine.

Cameron added that there will be a full six year time jump between three and four. He says that much of four has already been shot but they will return to set to complete filming around the time that the third is in theaters to wrap shooting on the last half of the film.
