Michigan Movie Critics Guild Announces Nominees for the Best of 2023




DETROIT – The Michigan Movie Critics Guild has announced its nominees for the best films and performances of 2023. American Fiction, Barbie and The Holdovers topped the list of nominees with six apiece; all three were nominated for best picture. Winners will be announced at noon on Monday, Dec. 4, via press release and on the guild’s social media channels.

“This was a great year for our guild to kick off recognizing the year’s best films and performances,” said MontiLee Stormer, a member of the MMCG’s leadership board and a critic for Movie Reelist. “Right up until our final votes, we were still screening films and adjusting our lists, and I think our nominees provide an important look at the state of cinema in 2023. All actors, films, and genres have a seat at the table.” 

 

The MMCG is a collective of film critics who are committed to enhancing the conversation about cinema and further establishing the state’s reputation as a film-loving community. This year’s MMCG – its first – is composed of 11 critics, who cover films for a variety of outlets across the state. From websites to newspapers and podcasts to YouTube, they capture the diversity of the field and bring a range of expertise, outlooks, and tastes.
