Director Michael Mann has had a couple very busy years. And he looks to continue that trend. He says that he is actively ready to begin working on the follow up to his classic movie Heat in 2024. After the sequel book became a massive hit, Mann instantly announced that he'd like to make a movie based on the novel. The film will serve as a sequel and a prequel at the same time, following the characters before and after the events of the original movie. Mann recently said when speaking with Variety Awards Circuit Podcast that his plan is to, "absolutely make it in 2024".

The story takes place one day after the events of the original movie, following Val Kilmer's character Chris Shiherlis as he tries to escape Los Angeles after the bank heist. The story flashes between two different time periods before and after the plot of the first film. Michael Mann realizes that his audience is ready for another look at these characters,"I could delude myself into thinking that the world is familiar with it, but when you check out its prominence in home video for over 20 years, this thing really has legs. People are still watching it, people are still talking about it. It's a brand."

There has been no formal announcement of a release window for the project. Mann will have a hard time recasting these roles and living up to the amazing casting of the 1995 movie. We'll be over here waiting to see what happens. But is sounds like he's getting it prepped.
