At long last, the upcoming third Tron movie is heading into production. Tron: Ares has officially begun filming. After Tron:Legacy failed to live up to box office expectations in 2010, the film series was shuddered and Disney's plans were put on hold to make a third film. Now, after fourteen years it's finally happening despite fan backlash about the casting of Jared Leto in one of the primary roles in the feature film. There are very few details known about the movie at this point, but it will serve as a direct sequel to Legacy, following a new batch of characters inside the grid.

Director Joachim Ronning is taking over in the directorial chair this time around and has been keeping fans updated on his social media. He posted to Instagram with the caption "WEEK 1 ON THE GRID #tron". So after fourteen years and a few delayed starts, it's finally happening. He has previously teased that the movie would be "about AI and what it means, and what it takes, to be human".

With Leto in a primary role, other cast members include Cameron Monaghan, Jodie Turner-Smith, Greta Lee, and Evan Peters. No other details are currently known about the plot of the film.
