Hellraiser reboot director David Bruckner is being handed the keys to another classic horror brand. He has officially boarded the latest remake of the '50s movie, The Blob. He will be writing and directing the motion picture. After his release of The Night House, The Ritual and the Hellraiser remake, the studio estimates that he'd be a fitting creative head for their latest relaunch about a blob from outer space that takes over a small town.

The Wrap notated that: Plot details about the reimagining are being kept under wraps. The original 1958 The Blob tells the story of an amorphous alien lifeform that descends upon a rural Pennsylvania town and begins consuming anyone it comes in contact with. The alien, an expanding mass of red gelatinous material grows as it eats and is strong enough to pull human victims into itself from all directions."

Over the last several years many directors have been attached to the gestating project. Simon West and Rob Zombie were both going to take up directorial duties but the film never got off the ground until now.

There is currently no announced release date for the movie.
