Tonight, news is breaking via various web outlets including Comicbook.com and Deadline that Tom Cruise and team are readying a third Top Gun movie. While nothing has been confirmed, it wouldn't be shocking considering how well Top Gun: Maverick did in theaters. Cruise just recently signed a development deal with Warner Bros. Discovery to develop new original and franchise films. Whether or not this is part of that deal remains to be seen, but after Misson Impossible 7 failed to light up the box office, it wouldn't be surprising to see a return to the Top Gun brand.

With the rumored news hitting the internet tonight, it looks like Miles Teller and Glen Powell would reprise their roles if this third entry happens. Joseph Kosinski is expected to return as director but would also be on board as a producer. This would be Cruise's next project after Mission Impossible 8, which seems to be doing some of its own re-tooling including a potential title change.

Nothing has been fully confirmed yet but it does seem like it's a real possibility. Kosinski previously hinted that there was more Maverick story to tell, "Is there another story that is compelling enough that we need to go back? It seems to me at the end of this film that Maverick has some gas left in the tank. He's not settling down," Koskinski stated.
