Director Adam Wingard may finally be readying his live action Thundercats movie. The project which has been in development hell for years seems to be gaining some momentum as he seems to be making some headway with the movie. While promoting this week's release of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, Wingard said that he's currently readying the big screen iteration of the characters and is in the developmental stages of getting a script ready for the production.

Although the film has been rumored for nearly a decade, it seems that that it could finally be getting there. When speaking with Collider about the movie, he had this to say:

"We're actively working on a draft right now, and it's cruising forward. It's super awesome. I'm really excited about it." He added that he,"was just talking with Simon Barrett about the script." He continued with, "You gotta take it seriously. In the cartoon, even though it was definitely for the kids, the characters were in a fair amount of danger. I'm definitely scarred from that one episode where Lion-O is getting wrapped up in the mummy, the rope, and he's in the temple. That really messed me up as a kid. But yeah, I think any good adaptation these days is you've got to stay as true to the source material as possible".

Wingard revealed that the new GxK movie was heavily inspired by Thundercats and other projects from the '80s. While there is no specific window for the release, it sounds like they're making headway on getting it to the next stage. Meanwhile, we have to sit through another U.S. produced Godzilla and Kong movie, which have been pretty disappointing. We just wish he'd go back to making movies like The Guest.
