It's been 8 years since there has been a Star Trek feature film in cinemas. But it looks like Paramount may finally be getting ready to do something with the franchise again. There have been multiple false starts while a fourth film in the Kelvin Timeline continued to sit in development hell. At numerous points, it seemed like they were finally going to get the project off the ground with several of the cast members even saying they were looking forward to coming back. There was even a long running discussion about Tarantino directing his very own Trek feature. However, none of that ever came to be.

Now, one of the lead Roddenberry Entertainment execs, Trevor Roth, says they have a plan in place to ramp back up and put Star Trek back in theaters:

I am not able to say much, but I can say that it is Paramount's intent to figure out the Star Trek side of movies and what's going on there. There's every intent of a new movie coming out in the near future. There's a lot of secrecy around what's going to happen there. But there is a plan getting into place. And we're very excited to see it return to the big screen.

He didn't give any pertinent details as to what they're working on. But it sounds like they may have an announcement soon. Star Trek: Beyond was the last movie they released to theaters and it was considered a major financial failure for the brand. Here's to hoping they can get something together soon that serves both new fans and old fans desire for Trek without too much lens flare and some good sci-fi.
