It was just a couple weeks ago that we reported on the development of new movies in the Star Trek universe. Well, it appears more work is being done to get the franchise back into theaters and it seems as though the Kelvin Timeline will be getting another entry as a new writer has been attached to develop a script for a Star Trek 4 which would bring back the cast from the J.J. Abrams reboot.

Star Trek: Beyond was the last entry in the series and was released in theaters back in 2016 so it's been a long time coming. Ultimately the film was a box office flop and dashed any immediate hopes of another sequel. Also, many hardcore fans were not happy with the direction the three movies went with more focus on action than the original science fiction elements of Roddenberry's vision.

Today it was reported via Variety that Steve Yockey has been officially attached to develop a new movie in the franchise that would hopefully see the cast of the Kelvin trilogy return for a fourth and final adventure. It's reported that this next film would be the concluding chapter for this version of the Enterprise crew. It was announced back in 2022 via Abrams that work had begun on a fourth movie but it never came to be as the movie continued to sit in development hell.

There are no details about the plot or timeline of the feature film as this is the first step to see if they can get it relaunched again. Chris Pine has shown interest in returning as Kirk but has also shown much doubt about the potential of it actually happening. Now, it's just another game of wait and see as we've all been told that this was going to happen time and time again.
