Horror fans are finally getting what they've wanted for years. The original Nightmare on Elm Street is getting the 4K treatment in a sleek new steelbook release from Warner Bros. on December 31st, 2024. It is a UK release but will obviously be region free. The packaging will include several art cards, a double sided poster and a feature booklet. This will be the first time that Freddy Krueger has been upgraded to 4K. The sad news is that there have been no announcements made for the sequels and no word of a series set.
The official listing is as follows:
"Celebrate 40 years of Wes Craven's nightmarish A Nightmare On Elm Street with a brand new 4K restoration and Ultimate Collector's Edition featuring a steelbook with new key art, theatrical poster and other premiums".
The original Nightmare on Elm Street went on to be a massive franchise spawning multiple sequels and a subsequent television series. There was a remake that failed to live up to its predecessors, ultimately putting the series to sleep for years now. This is the first big news out of the series in years.
