After years of development hell, it looks like the Robocop franchise is moving forward as a series on Amazon. Several years ago it was announced that a new movie would be helmed by Neill Blomkamp that would see Peter Weller return to the role of the heroic cybernetic police officer. Despite their attempts, Robocop Returns never came to light and the planned film was scrapped altogether. Other than the critically ravaged remake, the franchise has been sitting dormant for quite a while. Now, it looks as though Amazon has picked up the rights and will be rebooting it as a streaming series.
Per Variety, Peter Ocko has signed on to write and develop the series and James Wan will serve as a producer on the project. Just today, a tagline for the show was released with no other casting details or release date:
A giant tech conglomerate collaborates with the local police department to introduce a technologically advanced enforcer to combat rising crime...a police officer who's part man, part machine.
All other details are under wraps right now. We'll update if we hear more!
