Sci-fi/horror fans should be extremely excited at this amazing news. Today, it's breaking that Richard Stanley's post apocalyptic science fiction cult classic is getting a full 4K restoration via Umbrella Entertainment. The film which was released in 1990 was initially given an X rating for its extreme violence and eventually got a proper cinematic release, albeit a very short one. The film has gone on to become a cult classic with several blu-ray releases. Now, the film will get a proper 4K treatment from Umbrella that's being restored  from its original 35mm print.

The special release will include storyboards, a new commentary track, droid designs, and shooting scripts. It will also include the script for the unproduced, proposed sequel.

Hardware takes place in the irradiated future where a woman must do battle against a rogue self-repairing robot in the confines of her apartment. The film which was directed by Richard Stanley features Dylan McDermott, Stacey Travis, and small roles by Iggy Pop and Lemmy Kilmister.

This is one of the best cyberpunk features ever produced, featuring some amazing practical visual effects, nightmarish landscapes and an amazing soundtrack.
