After years of development and plans for a live action film being scrapped by Netflix and its subsidiaries, it looks like a movie based on the original Gundam series is back in the works. There are few details known about the adaptation of the classic anime series at this point but it looks like the project will be developed by Legendary Pictures with an undisclosed release date. Originally, the movie was going to be directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts attached to the project and would have headed to the streamer. But all that appears to be changing.

The development of the movie is now being handed over to the showrunner of the Netflix series, Sweet Tooth. Jim Mickle is now set to adapt Gundam to live action and should begin production some time in 2025. It is unclear where Legendary plans on moving the project to.

Originally premiering in 1979, Gundam has been the focus of over 50 different television series, numerous video games, manga and of course an extensive line of plastic models. Gundam is well known for spawning the entire mecha anime genre and has been a constant for over 40 years.

Mickle is known for his lower budget features including Stake Land and Cold in July
