In a world where no movie is safe from the remake trend, it looks like Focus Features is officially making an updated version of Takashi Miike's classic horror film, Audition. Just announced today, it was announced that Focus along with Hyde Park Entertainment and Mario Kassar Productions will be making a new version of Miike's work. The original is now 26 years old and has a massive cult following. They are currently "nearing a deal" to produce an update of Ryu Murakami's 1997 novel as a new film.
Christian Tafdrup, who wrote the original version of Speak No Evil, has been tapped to write the new script with his brother Mads Tafdrup also helping out with scripting duties. There aren't any other details released about the project yet but we expect some more updates.
This doesn't seem to be a movie that really needs a remake because the original 1999 film still holds up. Cineverse is attached as the production house for the movie but there is no word who will direct the feature.
