After years, it looks like Gremlins and The Goonies may finally be getting new treatments by Warner Bros. and Chris Columbus. We all know by now that nostalgia is a potent drug and Warner is looking to cash in on bringing both popular franchises back into cinemas along with multiple others. Columbus, who is best known for Home Alone and couple of Harry Potter movies is said to be attached to at least one of the projects. Deadline broke the news earlier today with this bit of text:

"Franchise hopes abound down the road in Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, Practical Magic 2, DC's Clayface and Supergirl, Drew Goddard's incoming script for a new Matrix movie, a new Gremlins from Christopher Columbus, and a Goonies treatment".

Gremlins has been missing from theaters since 1990's sequel, The New Batch but did spawn an eventual animated series. The Goonies sequel has been talked about for years with no resulting script. Rumors have often hit the internet but nothing has ever happened with it. Now, it seems like active development may be happening on both projects.

Martha Plimpton and Corey Feldman have shot down previous rumors of a script, with Plimpton stating, "People, there is no Goonies 2 script. There is no one attached. Spielberg is not directing. It's not real".

Well, now we'll be waiting around to see if we get any real confirmation from reps at WB.
